Film Review: The Golden Compass

by Pat Johnson

If you'd heard that this movie was supposed to be the next Harry Potter franchise, put those expectations in your muggle microwave and set it to 'melt '. I saw nothing in common with HP, which includes premise, characters, humor, and humanity. This is one of those pretty pictures that lacks a soul (which is odd because the church/soul concepts in the film are driving the publicity train). Some of the characters are vaguely interesting, but almost no time is spent making me like them. The end result is a dark and lifeless film set in a wonderful world where nothing wonderful happens.

5/11
