After seeing TFA for the third second time, I started thinking about Kylo Ren’s potential character arc, and how he and Rey might accomplish something in the new trilogy that was only barely managed in the original three movies. Episode VII might be the perfect set-up for converting a Dark Side user back to the light.

Kylo Ren says in a conversation with Vader’s mask that he feels the call to the Light. He is tormented by his desire for power and his angsty daddy issues conflicting with his upbringing and knowing what is right. Killing his father may have cemented the issue for some. I know I’ve never hated a Sith more than Kylo Ren in that moment. What a bastard.

But what if that didn’t do it? What if he feels the conflict even more now that he’s crossed that line?

Kylo is obviously fixated on Rey, and it wouldn’t be hard to assume he’s attracted to her. She clouded his judgement on Takodana, she resisted him in the interrogation chamber, and on Starkiller base he offered to teach her the ways of the Force. He didn’t monologue about the power of the Dark Side. He just said “the Force.”

Speaking of the interrogation chamber, Rey did a bit of an embarrassed double-take when Kylo took off his mask. She was surprised that she was attracted to him, at least physically. All the pieces of a budding romance are there. If Luke is able to calm her anger over Han’s death, and convince her that Kylo Ren could still turn back to the Light, then she might undertake the same mission Luke did in the original trilogy.

Rey uses Ben’s attraction to turn him back to the light, and together they defeat Snoke.

Then they hook up, have lots of super Force babies, and protect the galaxy forever and ever.

Just my theory.
